Tolkien’s The Hobbit has been entertaining audiences in Williamson Park Lancaster since it opened on July 5 and has sold out to the end of its run on August 13.

By the time it closes, it will have been seen by 17,200 people.

The Dukes’ outdoor offering for 2017 will be Treasure Island written by Debbie Oates and booking opens in the autumn. The Coronation Street scriptwriter has also penned the theatre’s first play of its new homegrown season—The Ockerbys On Ice—a love story set against the background of cryonic freezing which runs from September 30-October 22 in The Round.
