Tracy Hopes to Be a Shaw-fire Success

Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw is to star as Celia in As You Like It in the R J Williamson Company's summer tour.

Shaw, who recently appeared in David Hare's controversial play The Blue Room and hasn't done Shakespeare since drama school, was also considered for the role of Ophelia in Hamlet.

But she was contracted to film an episode of the BBC's hospital drama Casualty, so Bafta nominee and award-winning Hollywood actress Emily Lloyd will play the tragic Hamlet heroine instead. Sarah Douglas takes on the role of Gertrude.

Billed as "Britain's largest and best-loved open-air Shakespeare festival", the tour starts in Brighton on July 1st before taking in Nottingham, London (the first West End festival at Holland Park) and Leeds.
