Swashbuckling adventure: Treasure Island

Derby Theatre’s production of Treasure Island which should have been staged at Easter 2020 is to be revived as the theatre’s big family show for Christmas 2021.

The adaptation, by Theresa Heskins, artistic director of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic Theatre, is inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale of buried treasure and buccaneers. Treasure Island will replace Aladdin as the theatre’s main-house Christmas production.

All performances will have fully integrated British Sign Language and captioning. The production will also include live audio-described performances.

Casting details are to be announced. The creative team comprises director Sarah Brigham, associate director Emily Howlett, designer Neil Irish, composer Ivan Stott, lighting designer Tim Skelly and BSL consultant Daryl Jackson.

Treasure Island will run from Friday 26 November until Friday 31 December.
