Applications are open for the Kevin Elyot Award.

Offered by the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, The Kevin Elyot Award provides a writer’s residency to support a new piece of work, be it dramatic, creative or academic, inspired by the Kevin Elyot archive.

The annual award comprises £3,000 to fund a four-week residency, support with research and a public sharing of the work.

Kevin Elyot, who died in 2014, studied at the University of Bristol's Drama Department. Initially an actor, he went on to be best known as a playwright and screenwriter. His work includes My Night with Reg for which he won a Laurence Olivier Award and an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Comedy, amongst others. A 35th anniversary production of Elyot’s first play, Coming Clean, opens at London's King's Head Theatre in July.

The Kevin Elyot Award is funded by an endowment provided by his family. The archive, held at the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, contains scripts, correspondence, manuscript and publicity material.
