Motionhouse will present their dance-circus production WILD

A cultural festival featuring “many of the best artists from Birmingham and the West Midlands" is to return to the city over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Birmingham Hippodrome’s creative director Chris Sudworth said, “Birmingham Weekender is always a really special event and this year we’re delighted the festival will be our most accessible yet—retaining its heartbeat in Bullring and Grand Central but also returning to Southside, meaning even more people can enjoy spectacular free performances and events.”

Among the highlights will be The Whale, a “unique” solo theatre performance by Coventry’s Talking Birds in which visitors step through a giant whale’s mouth, “jaw-dropping” performances by Circus Raj featuring aerialists, acrobats, musicians and giant puppets from northern India state Rajasthan, and WILD by Hippodrome associates Motionhouse which has been seen by more than 100,000 people across the UK and Europe.

A stage designed by James Cowper and located in Rotunda Square will host a programme co-curated by Birmingham Hippodrome’s Young Advocates including dance from Eloquent Dance Company and Marshon Dance, and theatre performances from British Youth Music Theatre.

The festival will run on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August from 12 until 6PM. Further information is available at the Birmingham Hippodrome web site.
