Come Rhyme With Me - West African Special - part of the Albany's arts and food festival, Yam Yam!

Deptford's Albany Theatre brings together the arts, food and creativity in a six-week festival that runs from 6 October.

Part of the Big Lottery Fund's Changing Spaces / Local Food scheme, Yam Yam! explores food and culture focusing on the community around the south east London venue.

Performances involving food include Groundnut celebrating fried chicken with a workshop that looks at its history and provides samples, and Only Wolves and Lions working with an audience of 25 and their brought ingredients to prepare a feast while looking at community and isolation.

Gavin Barlow, Chief Executive of the Albany, comments “Yam Yam! is the perfect Albany story: bringing together some of the finest artists from across the country and beyond to create work that truly speaks to and engages with our community.

“With art created in collaboration with local people, and food grown in our own garden, Yam Yam! is a great example of the creativity thriving in the heart of Deptford.”

Amongst the other events are spoken word performances, a cocktail making workshop, poetry and a late–night club night offering the sounds of Africa.

Yam Yam! runs from 6 October to 17 November with events at various times. For further information and booking visit thealbany.org.uk.
