Mark is a Lecturer in Drama at the University of Salford's department of English, Politics and Contemporary History. His research focuses on new writing, devising, performance and physical theatre, and the overlap between these fields.

He studied at Oxford and York, where he also completed his MA and PhD. He has also directed and performed in productions throughout England and abroad, starting up an English-language student theatre company while working in Finland, and more recently directing for the York Shakespeare Project, Script Yorkshire and York Settlement Players.
