Playwright and novelist Howard Colyer's work returns to The Jack Studio this month when Ballast Theatre present his adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s Diary of a Madman.
In re–working Gogol’s short story for the stage, Colyer has also transported the action to London. The Diary reflects the journey to insanity of a humble clerk with imperial ambitions.
Colyer's adaptation of Gogol’s absurd farce, Marriage was at the venue earlier this year. His other work there includes Never Have I Seen Mount Fuji, Homework and Conference Call, and adaptations The Overcoat, Flight, Mandrake and Kafka V Kafka.
Diary of a Madman is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over. It runs from 26 to 30 August. This one-man show is performed by David Bromley and designed and directed by Scott Le Crass.
