National Theatre's season from February to June 2013

Adrian Lester to play Othello, Rory Kinnear to play Iago

In the main building Adrian Lester will play the title role in Othello directed by Nicholas Hytner and Howard Davies will direct Children of the Sun by Maxim Gorky, in a new version by Andrew Upton.

In parallel Table byTanya Ronder directed by Rufus Norris, Bullet Catch written and performed by Rob Drummond and Mission Drift created by THE TEAM directed by Rachel Chavkin will play The Shed, a temporary 225 seat venue sited outside of the National Theatre main building.

Later productions include James Baldwin’s The Amen Corner; Marlowe’s Edward II, Pirandello’s Liolà, Eugene O’Neill’s Strange Interlude and Georg Kaiser’s From Morning to Midnight. October sees the première of musical The Light Princess by Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson and family audiences at Christmas will be entertained by a new adaptation of Emil and the Detectives.

National Theatre productions continue to be seen in the West End, on tour and in cinemas.

  • This House by James Graham and People by Alan Bennett will be live broadcast in 250 cinemas nationally and in 23 countries.

A full programme of Platforms includes discussions and book-signings on The Captain of Köpenick, This House, Maxim Gorky, NT Future (the National’s £70m redevelopment plans), Othello, Peter Brook's new book, The Quality of Mercy, and Neil MacGregor Director of the British Museum and presenter of Shakespeare’s Restless World.

Currently playing is The Captain of Köpenick with This House shortly transferring to the Olivier Theatre
