Holes, based on the 1998 novel and 2003 film, comes to Newcastle Theatre Royal from Wednesday to Saturday (various times). The play is aimed at age 8+.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Phoenix Dance Theatre brings Black Waters, based on the Zong massacre where 130 slaves were thrown overboard and drowned in order to claim insurance on their lives and a story of Indian freedom fighters who were gaoled in the island prison Kala Pani by British colonial forces, to Stage 1 at Northern Stage on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Stage 3 on Saturday at 11:00, 12:30, 2:00 and 3:30, The Pied Piper Theatre Company presents Dig! for children aged 6 months to 2 years. As the sun comes up on a new day, the garden wakes up with growing plants, busy bugs and wriggling worms. Share the music, singing and story—and then stay to play amongst the plants!

At Alphabetti from Tuesday to 7 March (not Sundays or Mondays) at 7:30, Matt Miller & Peader Kirk present Fitting, a piece about Matt’s adventures in dresses and suits. He's interested in how appearances shape how we treat each other. Being visible, being invisible. Making things appear and disappear.

On Thursday at Gosforth Civic, the Theatre and CaroleW Productions present David McIver Teleport, a play about his teenage addiction to online role-playing games.

Mad Alice Theatre Company presents Rose and Robin at The Caedmon Hall in Gateshead on Friday.

Menopause The Musical 2 comes to Sunderland Empire on Tuesday, followed on Friday by Ellen Kent's La Bohème and on Saturday by Madama Butterfly.

On Sunday at 3:00, the touring production of Catherine Cookson’s The Cinder Path, adapted by Paul Dunn, comes to The Customs House in South Shields.

Dance theatre piece Doves from State of Grace visits Alnwick Playhouse on Tuesday.

Adult panto A-lad-in is at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre on Friday and Saturday.

Dad’s Army Radio Show is at Durham’s Gala Theatre on Friday. It’s followed on Saturday and Sunday (various times) by The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

On Tuesday, Spirit of the Dance comes to Consett Empire.

At The Witham in Barnard Castle on Saturday, three actors perform The Navy Lark, the first time on stage for 60 years.

The Cinder Path moves to Middlesbrough Theatre on Friday.

Meet me a Tree, an interactive first opera for 0- to 2-year-olds and their carers with music by Schumann, Delibes and Handel as well as original words and music by Catherine Carter, comes to The Hullabaloo in Darlington on Friday and Saturday (various times).

Revenge by Robin Hawdon, directed by Louise Jameson and produced by The Crime and Comedy Theatre Company, is at The Majestic, Darlington, on Saturday.

The Book of Darkness & Light in association with LittleMighty presents Upon the Stair by Adam Z Robinson, a trio of macabre tales, at Harrogate Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday.

In The Royal Hall in Harrogate, the Russian State Opera presents Aida on Thursday and Madama Butterfly on Friday.
