North East Artist Development Network

Although currently without a home, Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre has joined the North East Artist Development Network and will be part of its Residency Programme 2017.

The Programme, which offers paid residencies across the region for artists living or working in the North East, involves 16 venues and ten residencies will be awarded in 2017. There will be more in 2018.

The residencies are designed to support artists and companies in theatre and dance at the earliest stages of developing their work, providing an opportunity to work up an idea, with the support of a venue, to the point where is it ‘commission ready’ i.e. in a position to seek funding or other support to realise the work.

As well as Alphabetti, residency hosts include:

  • Alnwick Playhouse
  • Arts Centre Washington
  • BATH
  • Caedmon Hall, Gateshead
  • Gala Durham
  • Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre
  • Saltburn Arts Theatre
  • Sunderland MACQ
  • The Witham, Barnard Castle

Each residency offers:

  • Up to £2,000 financial support
  • A week’s space for research and development
  • A welcome on the first day in the venue to meet with the programmer and other staff
  • An opportunity to show work at a regional scratch event
  • A presentation slot at Meet the Programmers
  • A mentor from the steering group, who will also provide support to the host venue

Full details and instructions on how to apply can be found in a PDF file on the Alphabetti web site.

The closing date for applications is Monday 8 May 2017 at 10AM.
