Sunderland Empire’s Creative Learning team recently secured funding from Arts Council England for Get Curious!, a project of autism-friendly learning in Sunderland linked to the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in August.

The project delivered a very successful programme over the summer with arts venues and partners throughout the city. Its overall aim was to kickstart further longer term engagement in theatre and the arts and the project now moves onto the next stage, to support learning and development. Creative professionals and teachers will be given the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge inspired by the production.

Frantic Assembly Teacher Training Workshops will take place on Monday 21 September 2015 (4 till 6PM) at Sunderland Empire at a cost of £30 per teacher. The workshop will be delivered by physical theatre company Frantic Assembly, which devised the spectacular physical theatre in the production.

Frantic Assembly’s unique approach to creating physical material involves a highly energetic and creative session which is suitable for teachers and practitioners working with young people, who have an interest in exploring physical theatre techniques.

The workshop will be delivered by Steve Kirkham who has worked with Frantic Assembly for 18 years, most recently as Associate Movement Director on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in the West End.

Through the workshop, participants will experience the processes used to create Frantic Assembly’s award-winning shows and find out how to develop key skills crucial to the performer/director. There will be the opportunity to learn new and exciting approaches to devising work, alongside finding ways of creating choreography for groups of all abilities.

Places on the workshop are limited. To discuss further or to book a place, contact Sunderland Empire’s Creative Learning team on 0191 566 1056 or [email protected].
