Above the Stag: look forward to moving to new premises

Above the Stag will be popping the corks early to celebrate their planning application being approved.

As previously reported, the country's only full-time professional LGBT+ theatre had applied for a change of use on premises in Vauxhall's Goding Street which it wants to transform into a 120-seat main house and a 60-seat studio space with rehearsal rooms, a gallery and a café-bar.

Producing artistic director Peter Bull said, "we are ever so excited that Lambeth Council has granted permission for change of use of the new premises that Above The Stag Theatre will be moving into in 2017.

"As the new venue will be a much larger space, it will allow us to expand our programme, enhance customer experience and continue being a beacon in the LGBT+ community and for London theatre in general.

"The conditions on the approved application weren't anything untoward or unexpected but before anything is set in stone we have our legal team looking this through."

Currently playing at Above the Stag is the sold-out Beauty On The Piste with Bitches Ahoy!, the sequel to Alright Bitches!, opening on 19 January.
