Southpaw Dance Company is seeking 100 volunteers to participate in an immersive dance performance, Erimus, that will celebrate the reopening of Middlesbrough Town Hall.

The aim of Erimus (Latin for “We will be”) is to celebrate the future of the refurbished town hall and Middlesbrough’s cultural heritage and will take audiences into previously unknown areas like the cells and the courtroom. It will culminate in a large-scale mass-movement finale, a spectaular dance theatre piece with text derived from conversations with Middlesbrough residents and participants in the show.

No dance experience is needed, just enthusiasm and willingness to commit to:

  • Kick off workshop in April
  • Two evening sessions per week for the five weeks leading up to the performance
  • A weekend “intensive” 19 and 20 May (non-residential)
  • Run-through evening of the 23 May
  • Technical run through with invited guests evening of 24 May
  • Five performances between Friday 25 and Sunday 27 May.

Anyone interested should go to the Southpaw web site and complete and submit the form on the event page.

Southpaw has created similar events in South Shields (Wordplay, the Official Opening Ceremony to the National Centre for the Written Word, The Word) and Rush (first created for The Cultural Spring in Sunderland and South Tyneside in 2015 and then re worked for Hull UK City of Culture 2017).
