Dateline: 22nd January, 2006
Contemporary Dance in Nightclubs Award winning North East contemporary dance company balletLORENT is about to embark on a national tour of their new work la nuit intime, a "visually stunning evening of enchantment and intimacy". The Premiere is at the Hyena Cafe, Newcastle upon Tyne on Tuesday 31 January 2006 at 8pm, followed by six more dates throughout the country. Most performances of la nuit intime will be in a night club or venue of similar ambience - the audience will have the freedom to walk around as you would in a night club or change seats to enjoy a new visual experience. The audience will be allowed to drink, smoke and relax as they watch the evening unfold. They are also free to come and go as they please with a performance time of approximately two and a half hours. This is the first piece by Artistic Director Liv Lorent since taking her time out in line with the Arts Foundation Choreography Award she won earlier this year. Commenting on piece, she says, "It is a series of intimate exchanges where the interplay between the dancers is in turn sensual, funny and moving. Setting la nuit intime in nightclubs and music venues allows us to create an underground world of dance where the audience experience is as important as the performance. They are invited to drink and relax as the evening unfolds before them or join us and lose themselves in the dance." Liv Lorent was awarded the Arts Foundation Choreography Award in 2005 and the Jerwood Choreography Award in 2001. la nuit intime was piloted at The Wardrobe, Leeds on 27th April, supported and assisted by Bush Hartshorn and his team at Yorkshire Dance. The audience included a cross section of females and males of all ages. Evidence enough, says the company, that there is an audience for this type of dance installation and, most importantly, an opportunity to attract new audience. Performance Dates
