Hip hop meets classical Indian dance in Shobana Jeyasingh’s “politically-nuanced and virtuoso new dance work” Material Men redux in the Patrick Centre at Birmingham Hippodrome on Monday and Tuesday.

The Classic Thriller Company takes A Judgement in Stone, widely considered to be one of Ruth Rendell’s greatest works, to Northampton Royal from Monday until Saturday while in the Derngate auditorium Alexandra Burke is Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act, directed by Craig Revel Horwood, also from Monday until Saturday.

Shane Richie and Laura Whitmore appear in the Peter James thriller Not Dead Enough at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry from Monday until Saturday while on the B2 stage OperaUpClose performs its first production for families and young people, Ulla’s Odyssey—inspired by Homer’s Odyssey—from Tuesday until Thursday.

A “psychologically disturbing” new version of Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Dr Frankenstein, a Northern Stage and Greyscale co-production, visits Leicester’s Curve from Monday until Saturday and the theatre also stages a new production celebrating the 20 anniversary of Jonathan Larson’s Rent the Musical from Tuesday until Saturday.

Nottingham-based 2Magpies’ Ventoux, the story of a drug-fuelled race between Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani, pedals into the Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield on Tuesday and Century Theatre, Coalville, Leicestershire on Thursday.

A triple bill including choreographer Christopher Bruce’s Ghost Dances, the “most popular work” in Rambert’s history, and Hydrargyrum, “set beneath a giant revolving mirror where dancers morph from a powerfully anonymous group to defiant yet vulnerable individuals”, is at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham from Tuesday until Thursday.

Hofesh Shechter’s podcast Everyday Moments, designed for one audience member in a completely dark room, which was commissioned by Fuel, is on a tour of university campuses and visits the Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton from Tuesday until Friday.

Kay Mellor’s romantic comedy A Passionate Woman featuring Liza Goddard tours to Malvern Theatres from Tuesday until Saturday.

A “radical” new staging of George Bernard Shaw’s comedy Pygmalion, a co-production between Headlong, Nuffield Theatres Southampton and West Yorkshire Playhouse, visits the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham from Tuesday until Saturday.

The John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield present Godber’s latest comedy drama The Empty Nesters’ Club at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme from Tuesday until Saturday.

Natasha J Barnes plays Fanny Brice and Darius Campbell takes the role of Nick Arnstein in Funny Girl which visits the Regent Theatre, Stoke from Tuesday until Saturday.

The Grapes of Wrath, Frank Galati’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, a Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Nottingham Playhouse, Northampton’s Royal and Derngate and West Yorkshire Playhouse co-production, transfers to Nottingham Playhouse from Tuesday until Saturday 8 April.

Set in 1966, The Best Thing is a “funny and, heart-breaking” production from Vamos Theatre which can be seen at mac Birmingham on Wednesday.

A one-hour play with music about loneliness and the Samaritans, Human Story Theatre’s Flat 73, which involves a building with 75 flats in which few people know one another, takes to the Studio at Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham on Wednesday.

Transitions Dance Company returns to Buxton Opera House with a triple bill of freshly commissioned works by choreographers Cristian Duarte, Oded Ronen and Charles Linehan on Thursday.

Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre performs Emma Rice’s adaptation of Shakespeare and Carl Grose’s Cymbeline in the Studio from Thursday until Saturday.

Northamptonshire venue The Core at Corby Cube’s showcase night Launchpad features a taster of the best new theatre from across the region, including Trigger, a response to the triggering of Article 50—Britain’s formal notification of intending to withdraw from the EU—on Friday.
