Theatre Space NE's New Writing Festival

Theatre Space NE launches its first New Writing Festival, part of the Sunderland Literary Festival, at the Canny Space on 18 and 19 October.

Eight local and regional writers were asked to create new pieces of writing—some plays, some poetry and some prose—inspired by the spectacular and historic building which is The Canny Space, the former Holy Trinity Church in the toewn's East End.

There will be sixteen short plays by new and established writers—Chrissie Petrie, James Whitman, Louise Taylor, Mary Pickin, D G Foster, Helen Bowie, David Farn and Chris Wilkins—which will be performed in various locations within the building by a company of nine actors.

Tickets available in two formats: either £4 pick and mix, where you choose which shows you want to watch and pay for them one at a time, or a £15 weekend pass, where you can see as many of the shows as you want over the two days.

As the event has been supported by the Community Chest, residents of postcode areas SR1 and SR2 can get half-price tickets. Proof of address will be needed.
