Richard Alston Dance Company autumn tour
Richard Alston Dance Company’s autumn tour 2012 sees the company’s ten dancers taking the stage for 16 performances throughout UK and in the US.
The tour opens in London at The Place, Robin Howard Dance Theatre (Wed 3–Sat 6 October) for the annual At Home season, and ends in New Jersey at Montclair State University (Thu 13-Sun 16 December) as part of the internationally-renowned Peak Performances series.
The At Home programme includes the world première of Martin Lawrance’s Madcap to music by New York band Bang On A Can All-Stars. This new work follows on the heels of Lawrance’s major commission from Scottish Ballet for the Cultural Olympiad.
Also in the programme is Alston’s recently revived Shimmer, to the music of Ravel, with costumes by fashion designer Julien Macdonald.
The evening is completed by Isthmus, Alston’s most recent work, to the light taut rhythms of Japanese composer Jo Kondo, created for Bob Lockyer’s 70th birthday celebrations at The Place in spring 2012.
Together with Madcap and Shimmer, the tour’s programme also includes a specially revived The Devil in the Detail, with added new material. This energetic joyous work, inspired by Scott Joplin’s King of Ragtime, will be accompanied live by pianist Jason Ridgway, Richard Alston Dance Company’s long time collaborator.
Towards the end of the tour the programme will feature Unfinished Business, choreographed to Mozart’s Opus K533; Roughcut, danced to Steve Reich’s New York and Electric Counterpoint; and Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, for choir and harp.
During the four-night residency at Montclair State University, A Ceremony of Carols, a Peak Performances co-commission, will be accompanied live by Montclair University Choir.
