South Shields’ Customs House, famous for its own Christmas pantos, is to play host to a summer pantomime – and a special tea party to go along with it.

AJ Productions brings Beauty and the Beast to the venue on 26th and 27th July as part of a regional tour.

In a small French village the beautiful and intelligent Belle lives with the eccentric Dame Dolly. She denies her suitor, the vain and boorish Gaston, as she wishes to better herself and move away from the village.

Gaston’s wicked mother has cast a spell on the Prince to ensure her son is the fairest in the land, so when she hears of Belle’s rejection, she puts an evil plan into action that forces Belle to run away – and stumble upon the Beast’s castle.

The show features all the usual panto ingredients: slapstick comedy, audience interaction, singing, dancing and lavish costumes and sets.

Tickets are priced £16.50 for adults, £10.50 for children and £49 for a family ticket.

The Be Our Guest Tea Party is at 4pm on both days and costs £10 per person.

Ray Spencer, Customs House executive director, said, “Panto is not just for Christmas and children’s shows at The Customs House are always a huge hit. So we’re delighted to have AJ Productions with us for the first time and I’m sure they’ll kick the summer holidays off in style.”
