Theatre Space North East’s season of Plays in the Parks

Theatre Space North East’s season of Plays in the Parks returns this year with an additional venue.

As well as performing, as in the past four years, in Sunderland’s Roker Park, Mowbray Park and Barnes Park, this year the company will perform two of the plays in the grounds of Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, a place which has been the location for many films and TV series, including two Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey.

This year’s programme consists of two Shakespeare plays, Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew, and a special family show, a new version of George and the Dragon by Sunderland playwright David Farn.

Romeo and Juliet will be performed at Roker Park in Sunderland on 14 to 17 July at 7PM and at Alnwick Castle on 9 to 10 August at 7PM.

There will be four performances of George and the Dragon in Sunderland’s Mowbray Park on 30 July 2016 at 5PM and 31 July 2016 at 11AM, 2PM and 5:30PM and the production will transfer to Alnwick Castle from 6 to 11 August at 12PM and 2PM.

Finally The Taming of the Shrew will play in Barnes Park from 25 to 28 August 2016 at 6:30PM.

These are promenade performances and the Sunderland shows are free, no pre-booking required, although audiences are invited to make a donation towards production costs and actors’ fees at the end. £10 is the suggested donation.

Tickets for Romeo and Juliet at Alnwick will be available via the Alnwick Castle ticketing system. Performances of George and the Dragon at Alnwick Castle are included with the general admission to the Castle.
