The Oxi Morons, a theatre company new to the North East, is to present Jason Robert Brown’s musical The Last Five Years at Alphabetti from 8 to 12 May.

An Off-Broadway musical that chronicles the modern-day five-year life of a marriage, The Last Five Years is a show full of contradictions: are either of the two ill-fated lovers ever really in the right or in the wrong? Whose truth is the reality? Cathy and Jamie will share snapshot memories from within this timeline, proving that fault or blame can sometimes be more difficult to place than it first seems.

Up until recently, the company’s founder Gram Cunningham has been based in Scotland where the company received funding from Creative Scotland (formerly the Scottish Arts Council) since 2007.

Linked to the Alphabetti performance is a masterclass which will cover how to prepare for auditions and showcases, incorporating acting into a musical performance with professional guidance and advice.

There will also be the opportunity to perform that evening. After watching the performance of The Last 5 Years, participants will then take to the stage presenting what they worked on during the masterclass.

The masterclasses are on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 May from 11:00 to 3:30. The cost is £15 which includes a ticket for the show. Full details can be found on the Alphabetti web site.
