The Disasters of Johnny Armstrong

NTC (Northumberland Theatre Company) has left its home of 30 years, Alnwick Playhouse, and moved into new premises, The Dovecote Centre in Amble, and now it is about to set off on tour with a new production.

That tour will begin at The Dovecote Centre on 15 March with three of Wilson’s Tales of the Borders, a collection of stories written by John Mackay Wilson from Tweedmouth in 1834. The three tales which will be performed on tour are:

  • The Disasters of Johnny Armstrong—the tale of a likeable well-meaning chap, but with a temperament one wouldn’t exactly describe as dazzling, as he goes in search of his long lost relatives, with some rather unexpected consequences… (Adapted by Louis Roberts and Stewart Howson.)

  • The Monks of Dryburgh—a tale about the charitable monks of Dryburgh, well known for their kind and generous ways… Or are they? (Adapted by Louis Roberts and Stewart Howson.)

  • The Tale of Launcelot Errington (and his nevy Mark)—a ridiculous romp following the eponymous hero (and his nephew) as they embark on a swashbuckling adventure all across Northumberland. (Adapted by Karen Hirst.)

All three are directed by Gillian Hambleton and performed by David McCarthy, Stewart Howson and Louis Roberts.

Tickets will be £7.50 on the door, but, to celebrate the move, the company is also running an early bird special. Anyone who reserves tickets in advance will get a special 2 for £10 deal (also payable on the door).

To reserve tickets, e-mail [email protected] and leave your name, contact details and how many tickets you’d like, or phone 01665 713 655.
