The Dolly Mixtures (Customs House)

On Saturday, it’s this month’s Alphabetti Soup at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre: music, poetry, comedy and a new short play.

Theatre Space North East presents The Taming of the Shrew in Barnes Park, Sunderland, at 6.30 from Thursday to Saturday. The promenade production begins at The Coach House Cafe entrance to the park.

From Wednesday until 3 September, the Customs House in South Shields presents The Dolly Mixtures, a new musical by John Miles and Tom Kelly, inspired by the story of a group of eight South Shields women who set-up the variety act The Dolly Mixtures when one of their husbands was diagnosed with cancer in 1972 and for 15 years they performed in working men's clubs throughout the region.

Marty MacDonald’s Toy Machine (for ages 2 to 7) comes to the Playhouse Whitley Bay on Thursday at 1:30.

The drama installation 1916: No Turning Back continues at Durham’s Gala Theatre until Sunday (various times throughout the day).

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men presents Much Ado About Nothing in Harlow Carr Garden, Harrogate, at 7PM on Thursday. Tickets can be booked at the Harrogate Theatre box office.
