Opera North returns to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal this week with Der Rosenkavalier (Strauss) on Wednesday and Saturday, Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd on Thursday and a Puccini double bill, Il tabarro and Suor Angelica, on Friday.

At Northern Stage this week, the regular Young People’s First in 3 is in Stage 3 on Wednesday, the Actors Touring Company and Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh co-production of Aeschylus’ The Suppliant Women, adapted by David Greig, runs from Thursday to Saturday, and on Thursday and Friday Northumberland Theatre Company in association with The Bijli Project present How to Make a Killing in Bollywood.

The Rooms, a promenade performance of three new short plays at Alphabetti, continues until Saturday.

On Friday, James Wilton’s Leviathan, a re-imagining of Moby Dick, comes to Dance City.

The Glenn Miller Story with Tommy Steele comes to Sunderland Empire from Tuesday to Saturday.

On Friday, Arletty Theatre presents Swan Canaries, a physical theatre piece based on real life events and the biggest explosion this country has ever known (at a munitions factory in 1918), at the Royalty Theatre, Sunderland, part of Sunderland Stages.

On Monday, Wendy the Witch and the Mummy’s Curse continues at the Customs House in South Shields at 4:30. Then on Thursday, Hands On NE presents a new play by David Farne, Signals.

Black Is the Colour of My Voice, inspired by the life and music of Nina Simone, comes to the Queen’s Hall in Hexham on Wednesday.

The Gala in Durham has its scratch night Next Up… on Wednesday, featuring five new plays in the process of development.

Cambridge-based Menagerie Theatre brings Forum Theatre piece A Life in the Week of Megan K. to the Literary Institute in Ireshopeburn, Weardale, on Tuesday at 7PM.

On Saturday and Sunday (various times) Peppa Pig’s Surprise comes to Billingham Forum.

She Wins All The Races—A Tragicomedy with Biscuits comes to Hartlepool Town Hall on Thursday and on Saturday at 2PM it’s puppet show Old Mother Hubbard and Her Cupboard.

The Russian State Ballet and Opera bring two ballets to Harrogate Theatre this week, Swan Lake on Monday and Sleeping Beauty on Tuesday.
