Opera North returns to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal this week with Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (Wednesday and Saturday), Rossini’s Cinderella (Thursday and matinée on Saturday) and Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden (Friday).

At Northern Stage this week, the Queens of the North rep season continues with Dr Frankenstein (Tuesday at 2PM and 7:30 and Wednesday at 6PM) and Hedda Gabler, This Is Not a Love Story (Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30; matinée on Saturday). Meanwhile, in Stage 2, Curious Monkey’s production of Leaving by Paddy Campbell runs from Tuesday to Saturday at 8PM.

On Wednesday, tiata fahodzi and Watford Palace Theatre bring good dog to Live Theatre.

From Wednesday to Saturday at Alphabetti, Coracle presents Trajectory, a double bill of new plays: Life After by Arabella Arnott and Bricks and Mortar by Steve Byron.

On Thursday, Zendeh brings Transit to Arts Centre Washington.

On Saturday, Don’t Go into the Cellar Productions presents The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes at the Phoenix Theatre, Blyth.

On Friday, Townsend Productions in association with Harrogate Theatre and The Place Bedford presents Dare Devil Rides to Jarama, a new play by Neil Gore, at The Maltings in Berwick.

John Godber’s The Empty Nesters’ Club comes to the Queen’s Hall in Hexham on Tuesday.

On Saturday at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre, 2Magpies Theatre presents Ventoux, the story of Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani whose drug-fuelled race there in 2000 was reputed to be the greatest cycling had ever seen.

From Thursday to Saturday, London Classic Theatre brings Terry Johnson’s Hysteria to Durham’s Gala Theatre.

Birmingham Stage Company brings David Walliams’s Gangsta Granny to Billingham Forum from Wednesday to Sunday.

The Things That Came From Over There!—“85 minutes of shocks, spine-tingling silliness, and blood curdling terror”—comes to Middlesbrough Theatre on Wednesday.

At ARC Stockton at 10:30AM on Tuesday and Wednesday, Third Angel & Sheffield Theatres present Partus, delving into the myths, the statistics and the politics of birth, and engaging with real people and real stories. Then, between 10AM and 4PM on Saturday, Levantes Dance Theatre will pop up in Stockton town centre with their walkabout show, Canapé Art.

On Monday, Rhodri Miles performs Burton at Harrogate Theatre and then from Thursday to Saturday Unfolding Theatre presents Putting the Band Back Together, while on Friday in the Studio Daniel Byre presents Safe House, a work in progress and a pay what you decide event.
