Young Frankenstein continues at Newcastle Theatre Royal until Saturday.

A Song for Ella Gray, adapted for the stage from his own novel by David Almond, runs at Northern Stage from Tuesday until 16 September.

On Sunday 10 September Live Theatre’s Live Lab presents 10 Minutes to … Shine Bright, seven new short plays performed for the first time. The plays are A Brief Case (by Carl Wylie), Technical Difficulties (Humera Mazhar), Supernova (by Jamie Morren), Burnt Flapjack (by Tamsin Daisy Rees), Endless Summer (by Olivia Hannah), Sophie (by Henry Lawrence) and Stars and Sh*t (by Arabella Arnott).

From Tuesday until 16 September (not Sunday and Monday), Alphabetti presents Coracle’s production of Overdue, a new play by Arabella Arnott.

From Wednesday until Saturday, Cranked Anvil presents a double bill of plays about Sunderland AFC, Cornered by Jeff Brown and Wise Men Say by Paul Dunn, at the Customs House in South Shields.

On Friday (at 8:00) and Saturday (at 2:00) at the Queen’s Hall in Hexham, Fun in the Oven presents Canary, the story of the Canary Girls, a motley crew of Munitionettes ‘doing their bit’ for the war effort. Then an air raid on their shell shop rocks their world…

On Wednesday at Durham’s Gala Theatre, Engine Shed presents Wisdom of a Fool, the story of Norman Wisdom, written and performed by Jack Lane. Then on Saturday, Cranked Anvil brings Cornered and Wise Men Say to the venue.
