Hairspray is at Newcastle Theatre Royal from Monday to Saturday.

There are two new plays at Alphabetti in Newcastle this week. On Tuesday at 7:30 and Wednesday at 9:30 Year of Wonders, adapted for stage by Mike Alfreds & Jane Arnfield from the novel by Geraldine Brooks, produced by The Forge and CaroleW Productions and performed by Jane Arnfield, tells the story of the events following the arrival of the Plague in an isolated village. Then on Wednesday and Thursday (7:30) Cap-a-Pie, in partnership with Durham University, presents Woven Bones by Laura Lindow, the story of prisoners of war from the 1650 Battle of Dunbar who were marched to Durham and imprisoned in the then-disused Cathedral and Castle.

On Friday Dirty Dusting comes to the Tyne Theatre and Opera House.

At Dance City at 2:00 and 7:30 on Saturday the National Youth Dance Company presents Used to Be Blonde choreographed by Sharon Eyal.

David Walliams’ Awful Auntie comes to Sunderland Empire from Thursday to Sunday.

Cranked Anvil presents an evening of rehearsed readings of new work by NE writers at The Peacock in Sunderland on Wednesday.

Woven Bones moves to The Henry Travers Studio at The Maltings in Berwick on Friday.

Year of Wonders comes to Durham’s Gala Theatre at 1:30 and 7:30 on Thursday.

On Thursday Dryad Productions bring The Time Machine, a one-man version of H G Wells’ classic novella, to Hartlepool Town Hall.

Children’s show Bing Live comes to Harrogate Theatre on Saturday and Sunday (various times).
