Darlington-based Theatre Hullabaloo, in partnership with Northern Stage, Live Theatre and Dance City (all in Newcastle) is offering three new commissions to artists based in the North East or with a strong connection to the region who are interested in developing theatre for young audiences (0 - 16 years).

  • Live Theatre is offering a writing commission for new work for audiences of 6+
  • Northern Stage is offering a commission for an early years theatre maker
  • Dance City is offering a commission to an artist developing a new piece of dance theatre for children and families.

All three commissions will be presented in scratch during the 2015 TakeOff Festival of Theatre for Children and Young People which will run from 19 to 24 October 2015, as well as having a platform in Newcastle.

The aim of the project is to "create a critical mass of artists engaged with creating dynamic work for young audiences in the region".

The value of each commission is £5,000 which will be awarded to the lead artist to support production costs to begin to develop a new piece of work. The award is expected to cover fees, materials and development time. Artists will be supported to plan and budget their process to include time with children in the creation of the work.

There is more information about the three commissions, as well as details on how to apply, on the Theatre Hullaballo web site.

The deadline is 12PM on Wednesday 7 January 2015.
