NE actor Jamie Brown from Gateshead is one of this year’s Worshipful Company of Educators' Inspirational Educator Awards winners. This year the Awards’ theme was Teaching Shakespeare in Challenging Settings and he was chosen as one of the eight winners for his work as Director of Learning at 1623 Theatre Company, Derby.

Commenting on the award, 1623 TC said, "congratulations to all the recipients of the Inspirational Educator Awards 2020 including our very own Jamie Brown who inspires so many learners in exciting workshops in schools, colleges, universities and community settings."

Brown’s acting work in the NE (for he splits his time between the region and Derby) includes When The Boat Comes In Parts 1 and 2, The Man and The Donkey, Romeo and Juliet (all for The Customs House), Death at Dawn and Rainbird (Cloud Nine), The Fighting Bradfords (Gala Theatre), Hadaway Harry (Wisecrack Productions) and By the Pricking of My Thumbs (KG Productions). He was awarded Performing Artist of the Year in the Journal Culture Awards 2016 for Hadaway Harry and The Man and the Donkey.

The Worshipful Company of Educators is a Livery Company of the City of London. It was founded in 2001 within the philanthropic tradition of the City of London livery companies. It provides a forum through meetings and social occasions to bring together members from all parts of the education world to discuss and exchange views on matters of topical interest. The company also operates a charitable fund to support individuals and projects that develop the process of learning and its management, encouraging and rewarding those individuals through appropriate grants, awards and medals.
