The WhatsOnStage Awards, now in their 16th year, are the only awards to be decided by public vote. This year's final voting stage closes on 31 January with the winners announced on 21 February.
This year Chichester Festival Theatre has 12 nominations for its productions of Gypsy and Mack and Mabel.
The big performance awards generally get the most attention but this has been a strong year for musicals with Kinky Boots and In the Heights grabbing nine nominations each and Gypsy eight.
Hamlet with Benedict Cumberbatch also has nine nominations, including for Cumberbatch as Best Actor in a Play; his competition comes from Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Mark Rylance and Alex Hassell.
Nicole Kidman, Rosalie Craig, Denise Gough, Harriet Walter and Lia Williams are all nominated for Best Actress in a Play whilst Best Actress in a Musical will be decided between Imelda Staunton, Beverley Knight, Kimberley Walsh, Lily Frazer and Katie Brayben.
Killian Donnelly, Michael Ball, Matt Henry, Sam Mackay and Ben Forster are the nominees for Best Actor in a Musical.
