Verity and Gemma set for all that jazz in Leicester

Paul Kerryson, artistic director of Leicester’s Curve, has announced the full cast for his new production of Chicago.

Verity Rushworth will play Velma Kelly. Perhaps best known for her role as Donna Windsor in Emmerdale, her theatre credits include the UK tour of The Sound of Music, the national tour of Carnaby Street, The Seven Year Itch at Salisbury Playhouse in 2012, and Annie at West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Gemma Sutton plays Roxie Hart. Her theatre credits include the UK tours of Hairspray and Oklahoma!, Dames at Sea at the Union Theatre in 2011, The Kissing Dance at Jermyn Street Theatre in 2011, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Lady Be Good and The Boyfriend at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

David Leonard plays Billy Flynn. His theatre work includes the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, the national tour of The Pitmen Painters and Arsenic and Old Lace at Salisbury Playhouse in 2009.

Sandra Marvin plays Mama Morton. Her theatre work includes Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre and on tour; A Fairytale of New York, Ragtime the Musical and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre; Cool Hand Luke at the Aldwych Theatre in 2011; A Rake’s Progress at the Royal Opera House; Porgy and Bess at the Savoy Theatre; and The Lion King in Paris.

Adam Bailey plays Mary Sunshine and Matthew Barrow is Amos. The rest of the company comprises Jocasta Almgill, Ashley Andrews, Michelle Andrews, Harry Francis, Jonny Godbold, Simon Hardwick, Fela Lufadeju, Katy Hards, Anabel Kutay, Jessica Kirton, Lucinda Lawrence, Jon Reynolds, Zizi Strallen and Callum Train.

The production opens on Wednesday 4 December, with previews from Friday 29 November. The run has been extended until Saturday 18 January.
